Category,

Qâf ق is an intriguing letter, which crops up in significant places: as an isolated letter in the Qur’ân, or as the name of a mythical mountain that is the goal of a long journey in Attâr’s Conference of the Birds.

This piece is made out of a single sheet of paper, painted and cut, then assembled to create subtle changes in level above which rises the head of the letter, evoking Mount Qâf and the seven valleys that must be crossed to reach it. Thus the mountain is at the centre of the world while simultaneously encircling it.
