Portfolio Category: A Year With the Earth

This series was created over the year 2017 to illustrate the principles of Spiritual Ecology.
As words are the essence of my work, the idea of creating something around these principles had been there for a while. How to bring this highly abstract art down into the natural world was another matter, that eluded me for months. But I go for regular walks in my local woodlands, and eventually the forest showed me the answer. Wandering through the trees on the last day of the year, looking at the carpet of purplish-brown leaves that had been golden only weeks earlier, I realized the natural harmony between the precisely structured Kufic and the exuberance of living matter. All that was needed was to bring them together with minimal interference.
This series, then, is created in collaboration with the Earth. At the beginning of each month, I set out for a walk, without expectation, and use the elements and critters that come my way (most of the time they are photographed on the spot, and not removed). As the year unfolds, the images also mirror the changing colors and textures of the seasons.
